Project Overview: Students in the Academy of Business at Clairemont High will take on the role of financial planners to develop a financial plan for an assigned client. Students first undergo a six-week “bootcamp” to learn all about financial instruments such as stocks, bonds, mutual funds, IRAs, real estate, taxes, and compound interest. Then, under the supervision of project advisors (industry volunteers), students group up and form a financial planning team, launching on a 10-week mission to create a detailed financial portfolio for their “client” (campus staff). Students finish with a final, competitive portfolio presentation to their client.

Framework:

A team of students assume the role of financial planners by conducting a series of interviews with the assigned client. Following the interviews, the student financial planners will develop and present a detailed financial plan. There will be two teams competing for each client’s business. Each client, after seeing both presentations will select a winning team.
Clients: Clairemont High School Administrators have agreed to be the clients for this project.
